Like this spacey

September 1st 2008 by Donna Summer

Ok, it’s not really a secret, but then again, maybe it’s not public knowledge, but I really pretty much hate all new hipster indy-rock/dance bands. Really, they all SUCK. I mean it. Just because you can rip off a beat from an 80′s pop outfit and hire someone like Switch to produce it doesn’t mean you are anything more than a cover band. That said, I got this album by Eine Kleine Nacht Musik from some friends of mine and they told me it was “like all Krautrocky and shit”.  Also, they are on Modular, and as I do have some respect, but this usually means the result is a piss-poor arpeggiated synth over a bad live drummer with a bit of beginning guitar noise through some delay. yawn. Sometime people refer to making Krautrock and just are making really lame electro. But this is not true with these guys, they really get it. They are making inspired and expansive tracks with the Krautrock idea of maintaining a straight framework in order to develop a more emotional structure. But the sounds and instruments have brilliant textures, really playing off each other perfectly. Massively impressed.

That is a cracking write up. I heard this track today on the drive home from work 5 mins ago. It was track 3 on the new Riton Mixmag covermount mix cd, and I knew as soon as I got home I was going to follow it up. I liked it that much already, and your paragraph has made me like it just the bit more…. A triumph.

Get the new issue of Mixmag. Great disc!
