BIRTHDAY PARTY BERLIN

We need a refresher

May 7th 2008 by Donna Summer

Yeah, somehow peeps don’t know so much about the dynamic duo known as Smith N Hack and their various solo projects Soundhack, Soundstream, and Errorsmith. Well, they’ve been around in the Berlin techno scene for ages and ages, and while they DO play around still, people seem to have slept on them a bit.

So let’s take a flash back to the year 1997; Soundhack’s first 12″ came out, and over the next 4-5 years Error smith joined him also with some self-titled 12′s.  Then in 2002 they united to form Smith N Hack with their break through album “Tribute”. So around this time as well, Minimal techno was known as this weird underground shit, where it wasn’t so easy to find the beat and people were experimenting waaaay too much with noise and weird sounds. Then, somehow, minimal techno flip-flopped into this mega-boring drug music where everything sounded the same. oh well. BUT- both Errorsmith and Soundhack are still super fucking waaaay-out there, as one can find in a great live-set clip on Errorsmith’s myspace page (link above) and with Soundhack’s new 10th Anniversary 12″. But as a primer to the dynamic duo, I uploaded a bunch of their tracks, a few recorded from vinyl. So DJ it out and spread the LUV! (track listing after the bump)
